Create a Statement Piece

Sep 16, 2020 | Kuster Design Blog

Does your home need some excitement? Is it time to freshen up a room with a statement piece that really pops? There are some designers out there that are working with the textile houses to create some amazing fabrics that can help turn grandpa’s old wingback chair into a piece that will totally make the room.

For example, Hella Jongerius has designed some lovely fabrics for Maharam that can make a piece get noticed. Here is her Reef pattern in Coral on a love seat.

Now, wouldn’t that make a nice change in your living room?

Looking for something a bit brighter without too much splash? Then how about redoing that wingback in a Seafoam fabric by Maharam?

If you are into stripes, how about a nice, bright pink one across your sofa as can be found on this nice pattern by Marimekko?

Maybe stripes are too literal and you want something with a bit more geometric. Agency, designed by Sarah Morris and also offered by Maharam provides a nice Midcentury vibe as seen here on this sofa below on the left.

Imagine that same piece in redone yet in one more level of punch and give Brand Apart, also designed by Sarah Morris for Maharam, a try. You can see this piece above in the right image.

Or, if all of these are still just a bit too stuffy, our personal favorite and one that will definitely keep your guests talking is Omni Splatt offered by Timorous Beasties.

We can definitely envision the fabric on the end chairs at a dining room table to help keep those dinner parties from taking on too formal of a tone!

If you want to dip your toe into giving that tired chair or sofa a new look, we’re eager to help!
